- I have a long name - so you can find my pre-married bylines. But you can call me Steph. I write from here in North Central Kentucky - and before that Orlando, Greenville, S.C., and Central Illinois. Before that I got my feet wet interning and freelancing at the Charlotte Observer in N.C. and before that I was editor of my college newspaper in Minnesota. I wasn't supposed to be a writer. I was destined, or so I thought, for marine biology. Then I met calculus, and, thankfully, at the same time I also stumbled upon newspaper writing as a freshman in college. The rest, including a nearly 15-year career in newspapers, is history. I also dabble in photography. When writer's block hits, I break out the Canon. You name it, and I've written about it. But medicine and fitness have always pulled me back to the operating rooms and gyms. So much so I got my personal training certification and am now pursuing a nursing degree. Soon the keyboard may be replaced more often by a stethoscope - but hopefully, I will always write.
